Cheese Rolling

Cricket and Rugby are totally mental sports to my Dutch wife. I got cauliflower ears playing second-row for Bath under 19s in the mid eighties, so I guess I must have been mental. But not more than those who 'cheese run' Cooper's Hill in Gloucester (and have been for 128 years no less). Today saw a welcome return to the traditional extreme sport after last years event got called off by the man, due to heath and safety fears. Check out cheese-rolling.co.uk for the smelly rules. BP

ahh ben, cheese rolling, how typically 'english' let's chase a cheese down a very steep hill, where the fuck does that tradition originate? brilliant, almost as loony as riding a very fast motorcycle, on public roads, around a small island in the irish sea..... camembert electrique?

As Lovey said, wonderfully wacky and so British, thank the gods of fromage that the social do gooders have been put back in their hole. I love nibbling on an old forward's lobes . . . with a slice of Gloucester on hand of course, and a nice scrumpy, mmmmmmm !!! Next they'll be trying to ban Morris dancing, piss off softies.

Playing for Bath under-19s is no mean feat Ben... and I thought you were such a laid-back bloke too!

Guy,
I was the (posh) village idiot muscle and line-out jumper (6'2 13 stone and I still had some spring in my step). But was also short-sited - although I didn't realize it at the time (all I knew was I was meant to catch the white blurry thing and if it was out of reach then shove). My beer drinking capacity was zero, so I wasn't exactly one of the lads. Like the 1st XV of the day, the under 19s had had a undefeated run of being national champions. The year I played we were beaten in the finals. Rucking isn't a skill I employ very much these days.

Wow ben, never had you down as a pack player.
Maybe a stylish centre "guscott/catt"....
A good achievement to play at that level anyway.
